Gladeville, Tenn. – Danny O’Quinn Jr. and the Mac Hill Motorsports team weathered motor difficulties here Saturday to record their second straight Top 25 NASCAR Busch Series finish.
O’Quinn, the 2006 Busch Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year, qualified 31st in the Pepsi 300 at Nashville Superspeedway and came home 23rd. But it wasn’t an easy day for the Roush Fenway Racing driver, who is competing in a limited number of races this year for Mac Hill.
The No. 56 Keith Bryant/S+S Mack Records Chevy Monte Carlo SS had engine trouble from the time it was unloaded, and team owner Jack McNelly praised his driver and crew for giving it their all to make the best of an unfortunate situation.
“We just didn’t have a good race car, and you’re going to have that from time to time,” he said.
O’Quinn, who has had a lot of success at Nashville, was disappointed with bad luck, too, but he said he’s trying to look on the bright side.
“We all did the best we could, and, really, that’s all you can do,” he said. “I just continue to be grateful to Mac Hill for giving me the chance to race in their car. And I sure did appreciate having Keith Bryant, Culver’s and Smith Transport on board with us.”
The primary sponsor of the 56 at Nashville was S+S Mack Records, so the car’s hood featured the cover of Bryant’s new album, “Live It Slow.” Bryant, like O’Quinn a Virginia native, is perhaps best known for his Dale Earnhardt tribute, “Ridin’ with the Legend.”
Associate sponsors were the Prairie du Sac, Wis.-based Culver’s restaurant chain and transportation and logistics company Smith Transport Inc. of Roaring Spring, Pa.
