Mooresville, N.C. – If Bristol Motor Speedway felt like home to Danny O’Quinn Jr. because it’s near where he grew up in southwestern Virginia, Nashville Superspeedway must feel like a home-away-from-home for the young driver.
That’s because in three starts there—two last year in the NASCAR Busch Series and one in 2005 in the ARCA RE/MAX Series—O’Quinn has never finished worse than 14th or qualified worse than seventh. He’ll get a chance to add to those totals on Saturday as the Busch Series returns to Nashville for the Pepsi 300.
O’Quinn, the 2006 Busch Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year, will make his second start of 2007 in the No. 56 Chevy Monte Carlo SS for Mac Hill Motorsports. The Roush Fenway Racing driver will compete in a limited number of races this year for Mac Hill.
O’Quinn finished a solid 21st last weekend at Bristol, and he said the car the team is bringing to Music City is one of Mac Hill’s best hot rods.
“I’m really excited about this race,” he said. “I can’t wait to get to Nashville and bring home a great finish.”
O’Quinn and the Mac Hill crew are also eager to make a good run for this week’s primary sponsor, S+S Mack Records. The hood of the 56 will feature the cover of Keith Bryant’s new album, “Live It Slow.” Bryant, like O’Quinn a Virginia native, is perhaps best known for his Dale Earnhardt tribute, “Ridin’ with the Legend.”
“This is a perfect match!” said S+S Mack Records Vice President Jerry Townsend. “NASCAR has always been good to Keith, and it's a pleasure to work with the Mac Hill Motorsports team and the No. 56 Chevrolet. We all have the same goal: to come in No. 1!”
In turn, Mac Hill owner Jack McNelly said he and the entire team appreciate the support of Bryant and S+S Mack Records.
“Needless to say, the connection between country music and automobile racing is a no-brainer,” he said, noting the common demographics of fans of both industries.
The Pepsi 300 begins at 3 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
