A weekend of new beginnings for Frank, Mac Hill

Mooresville, N.C. – It will be a story of new beginnings this weekend at Kentucky Speedway for A.J. Frank and Mac Hill Motorsports.

Frank, who drives full-time for Mac Hill in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series, will make his first NASCAR Busch Series start for the team in the Meijer 300 presented by Oreo, and the No. 56 Chevy Monte Carlo SS will be sponsored for the first time by Louisville, Ky.-based Brandeis Machinery & Supply Company.

The race will be Frank’s fourth career Busch Series start and first since 2001. He said he feels much better prepared to compete now that he has more experience, and he’s grateful to Mac Hill for giving him the opportunity and to Brandeis for supporting the effort.

“It’s a big deal for me,” Frank said.

He has competed at the Sparta, Ky., track a handful of times, the last being in 2004 in the now-defunct NASCAR All Pro Series. But he said he’s poised for an even stronger outing this time around, especially considering he’ll be backed by the veteran leadership of crew chief Tony Lambert, who has worked with the likes of Mark Martin, Dale Earnhardt and Cale Yarborough.

“I’m real confident with Tony and with his having had the experience he has at that level,” Frank said.

Mac Hill owner Jack McNelly said the team is eager to give Frank the chance to get some more Busch experience at a great racetrack in front of a lot of family and friends who will make the trip from the driver’s native Bluffton, S.C.

Though it’s been a while since Frank has gone Busch racing, McNelly said he’s certain that the wheel man is up to the task.

“He just needs to keep his head about him, which I’m sure he will,” he said.

Saturday will be the first time Brandeis has sponsored the No. 56. The company, which sells, services and rents construction and mining equipment, products and services in partnership with suppliers from a base in Kentucky and Indiana, will also sponsor the 56 car at Indianapolis on July 28. Its sister company, Power Equipment Company, was the primary sponsor last week at Nashville and will partner with Mac Hill again at Bristol on Aug. 24 and at Memphis on Oct. 27.

Tony Estes, Brandeis’ senior vice president of sales, said the company is excited to partner with Mac Hill. Racing is popular in the construction and industries from the boardroom to the job site.

“It gives our customers an opportunity to be a part of Busch racing,” Estes said.

Two of Brandeis’ major suppliers, Komatsu and Atlas Copco, are participating in the sponsorship on Saturday, as well. Komatsu and Atlas Copco hold many of the same values as NASCAR, including recognizing the importance of using state-of-the-art technology and providing unequaled customer service.

The Meijer 300 will be broadcast on ESPN2. Coverage begins at 8 p.m. EDT (7 p.m. CDT), and the race starts at 8:30 p.m. EDT (7:30 p.m. CDT).
